We were in the middle of the Limpopo Valley and 300 extras on the Rattling Stick job we were doing suddenly burst into song as we wrapped that day’s shooting. the reason? It was Jack Fitch – 1AD extraordinaire’s – birthday. Zolani, our amazing 2AD had organised it with the extras to sing to Jack and as he said later, while downing his 7th Underberg that Franz the German DP had insisted we all drink together, “This is a really special birthday”. Of course the USA beating Spain in the Confederation Cup played an important part of this, but that was just the cherry on top of the cake.
